Attack the Block

On the surface, Attack the Block may not have a lot in common with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. However this sci-fi horror comedy film does come from Edgar Wright, marking the first time the director produced a film he did not direct. And directing the film is Joe Cornish, Wright's co-writer on the Steven Spielberg film The Adventures of Tintin. With several other Wright collaborators behind the screen and Nick Frost in a prominent role, does Attack the Block measure up to Wright's other productions, or will Arnie, Stuart, and Jakob attack the film? Paul - Donation Bonus

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost came to fame under the direction of Edgar Wright. With the movies Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz as well as the television show Spaced. But to have a true spacey sci-fi adventure Frost and Pegg wrote their own script about two road-tripping Brits who encounter a pot-smoking foul mouthed atheist alien--Paul. Does this film, helmed by Superbad director Greg Mottola, match up to Wright's Blood and Ice Cream films? If you donate and support Now Playing you can listen and find out!

Hot Fuzz - Donation Bonus

Fresh off the success of Shaun of the Dead creators Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright decided the follow-up would be a new type of genre parody; instead of making a comedic horror film the duo created Hot Fuzz lampooning the over-the-top action films of the 80s and 90s. It was billed as the second part of their "Blood and Ice Cream trilogy" where Pegg would star with Nick Frost. Did this Spaced team suffer a sophomore slump or is Hot Fuzz a follow-up as good as the original? Thanks to your support of Now Playing you can listen and find out!

Shaun of the Dead - Donation Bonus

Can a zombie movie be a good comedy? Can a comedy be a good zombie movie? In the hands of Writer/Director Edgar Wright and Writer/Star Simon Pegg the answer was yes. Fresh off the hit British comedy Spaced the duo broke into America with this zomromcom - the film that became the first film in their Three Flavors Cornetto trilogy (called the Blood & Ice Cream trilogy in the US). Now as the trilogy concludes with The World's End Arnie, Stuart, and Jakob revisit Shaun of the Dead. Does the film work as horror, comedy, romance, or all of the above?
